About	Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is a Wetlands refuge with thousands of migratory waterfowl, including snow geese and tundra swans. Approximately 10,000 snow geese and an extensive range of ducks visit Back Bay NWR at the height of fall migration, usually in December. It is an 8,000-acre marine refuge bordering on the east of the Atlantic Ocean and Back Bay. The barrier islands include massive dunes, freshwater marshes, wetlands, ocean beaches, coastal forests, and wintering wildfowl impoundments. Back Bay sits is about 18 miles south of the resort. The Refuge Grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset. It has over 9,250 acres on and around a narrow strip of coastline typical of barrier islands along the Atlantic and the Gulf coasts. Fishing is allowed in designated areas.
