The Mansion was built in 1875 by Louis Phillips, who by the 1890s had become the wealthiest man in Los Angeles County. The building has been described as having been made in the "Second Empire" or "Classic Haunted Mansion architectural style." The exterior was fashioned out of fire bricks that were hand-made on the premises, while the ornate interior featured gas lighting, sixteen-foot tall ceilings. The Phillips Mansion became a center of community activity in the Spadra and Pomona area. |
