AboutThe park is a great challenging back and forth trail (1.8 miles) that leads directly to the Koko Crater's southwest side. Koko Crater is an ancient mountain that erupted about 30,000–35,000 years ago. It has 1,048 stairs/railroad ties that were initially designed over 60 years ago to bring supplies to the top's military bunkers. There is a small, bridge-like area that some people consider scary since the railroad tracks where one walks are above the ground. The top of Koko Crater provides a fantastic 360-degree view of eastern Oahu and the Pacific, making the hike worth the effort. Koko Head tail is one of the most famous trails on Oahu. It is a favorite of Hawaii locals and tourists.
