About | Elcho Castle is one of the best-preserved sixteenth centuries heritage in Scotland. It is a lovely house in the country that primarily serves the laird and his lady, their family and servants, who lived centrally in their chief seat. From the 1700s, the castle was no longer used at all as a noble residence. Elcho's existence was safeguarded about 1830 and transferred to state care by the 11th Earl in 1929. The castle still has original wrought-iron grilles to protect the windows. The interior is complete and roofed, with remains of decorated plasterwork. A significant portion of the Castle is accessible, and it is possible to walk through most of the building. Elcho Castle is open to the public throughout the summer. |
