About | Criccieth Castle is a landmark location, a true testimony to war's varying fortunes. The castle was begun in the 1230s; there were three main building phases plus several periods of remodelling. It was designed by Llywelyn the Great of the Kingdom of Gwynedd but heavily modified after it was seized in the late 13th century by the English forces of Edward I. Crowning its rocky headland between two beaches, it commands astonishing views over the town and across the wide sweep of Cardigan Bay. It is beautiful and has a fantastic chip shop and ice cream parlour with a seating area overlooking the sea. You can enjoy their award-winning ice cream, the views from the cafe are spectacular. |
