AboutCaernarfon Castle is remembered internationally as one of the Middle Ages most beautiful buildings. It was a motte-and-bailey castle from the late 11th century until 1283, when King Edward I of England began to replace it with the current stone structure. This fortress-palace is placed on the banks of the River Seiont. The medieval fortress that dominates the town is believed to have been completed in 1330 and cost around £25,000. Polygonal skyscrapers were the order of the day, with the most impressive of these being the Eagle Tower. You will also notice the stones colour-coded carefully arranged in bands. You can climb to the top of the turrets and get spectacular views of the harbour and countryside. The castle contains a museum with several Welsh & English history floors.
