About | Aberdour Castle is a delightful walled garden with scented flowers and a beehive-shaped doocot, which overlooks the Forth. Aberdour was initially built as a fortified residence in the 1100s, making it one of the oldest stone castles in the country. You can take a summer guided tour to see all around the castle, including the painted ceiling in the eastern range, a precious early 17th-century survival. Dog-friendly on leads in the garden. The tower house measures 16 metres or 52 ft by 11 metres or 36 ft on a skewed rectangular plan. Their lower two storeys comprise the oldest part of the castle, which is dated back around 1200. |
