| About | Qutab Minar is a victory tower built in 1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak after Delhi's last Hindu kingdom's defeat. The tower comprises five different storeys; each story is made up of various stones. The first three storeys are made of red sandstone; the fourth and fifth storeys are marble and sandstone. Qutab Minar has a spiral staircase of 379 steps. At the foot of the tower is the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque built in India. Qutab Minar is an excellent example of many other towers. The development in the minor architecture styles from Aibak to Tughlak is very evident. Visitors can see the country's diverse history and culture. Qutab Minar is open all day, year-round. |
