| About | India Gate is a war memorial, and it is one of the famous tourist destinations in New Delhi. The India Gate was built in 1931 and designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is a memorial to 90,000 thousand Indian army soldiers who died in the First World War. India Gate holds high significance. The whole arch stands on a low red foundation of Bharatpur stone and rises in stages to a massive molding. Both side's gate was carved with dates such as MCMXIV and MCMXIX. The top of the gate has a shallow domed bowl filled with the oil during the anniversary. In the nighttime, the place is decorated with colorful lights, which are the main attraction of the spot. |
