About	Rockhampton Botanic Gardens was established in 1873. A series of existing gardens work together to create a retreat for education and leisure on the city's southern edge. A complex site that now incorporates both built and natural ecosystems, it has enjoyed continuous use since its opening in 1873. On a concrete foundation planted with flowering annuals, a floral clock is the centrepiece of a circular path. The collection contains specimens that are rare in cultivation or of high maturity or both. Rockhampton Botanic Gardens provides a range of meals and refreshments and also catering for special events. Several important activities have taken place in the gardens, and the site is generally held in high regard by the community and is a popular spot for tourists to Rockhampton.
