About | Honolulu Zoo is 42.5 acres within the Kapiolani Regional Park. The animal population comprises more than 64 reptiles, 38 mammals, and 160 bird species. The 42-acre plant is divided into three tropical ecological zones. The highlights include the latest $12-million, 1.5-acre Asian Tropical Elephant Center, which features a 7.260-square-foot storage area and two 55,000-gallon ponds. Zoo gives different themes to each session/week, and campers learn through hands-on lessons with bio-artifacts, creative events, crafts, and games. More than 600,000 people visit the Honolulu Zoo every year. Honolulu Zoo is one of the leading zoos within a radius of 2,300 miles, and it is the only zoo in the US arising from the King's grant of royal land to the citizens. The zoo affords free admission for children two and under. |
