About | Chesapeake Planetarium is the first physical structure constructed in Virginia to provide a public education program. It was planned as a teaching tool for the education system, although it was often accessible to the general public. Each year, more than 50,000 students and adults visit the planetarium to view educational programs. The Chesapeake School Board provided planetary development support as a part of the National Defense Education Act (NDEA). The subjects in these services vary every month and are of an instructional type. They are intended to provide the user with a general summary of astronomy. Reservations are mandatory due to insufficient space, which can be made by contacting Chesapeake Public Schools by 8 am to 4 pm days of the week. The general public is allowed to join in free programs on Thursday nights at 8 pm. They have great programs, and they make it fun to learn about space, the stars, and even the stone hedge. |
