About | The Oaks House Museum is one of the few existing buildings that survived Jackson's burning in the Civil War. The site was constructed in the Greek Revival style in approximately 1853. The house is now a historic house museum administered by the Oaks House Museum Corporation. Its collection and grounds depict the life of a middle-class family on a mid-19th-century urban farmstead through the tale of four-term Jackson mayor James Hervey Boyd, his wife Eliza, and their family, focusing on the years 1853 to 1863. The cottage in Greek Revival fashion was built around 1853 on four acres of an area located in the heart of the capital city of Mississippi. |
