About | Iolani Palace was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii, beginning with Kamehameha III under the Kamehameha Dynasty and ending with Queen Lili?uokalani under the Kal?kaua Dynasty, founded by her brother, King David Kal?kaua. The Palace's foundation stone was laid on 31 December 1879 with full Masonic rites, and the building was completed in 1882. The Palace underwent several changes as it served the Capital for almost eighty years. In the 1970s, it was abandoned and returned to its original grandeur. This Palace holds beautiful memories of hula events and grand balls and traumatic memories of Liliuokalani's overthrow and incarceration. Visitors can enjoy an unforgettable tour of the Iolani Palace, guided by the palace history and beyond the state dining room's stanchions, the King's Library, and the King's bedroom. Visitors can take pictures of the interior, exterior, and grounds of the Iolani Palace. It offers free admission for children under 5-years-old. |
