AboutPawnee Prairie Park is one of the best hiking areas in Wichita, KS. The park occupies 624.49 acres along the Cowskin Stream, properties purchased during the 1960s and 1970s, including various plants and habitats. The park has been recognized as a Wichita Wild Nature area and is the most extensive Wichita Park system. Amenities feature a trail named for five miles in three connected loops and several unmarked tracks. It is one 1/2 miles long and one and a half miles wide, following the Cowskin Creek course. The park includes about 9 miles of natural trails and 4.75 miles of a designated trail loop that begins at the Pawnee. The path is mainly used for bird watching and is best used between March and April. Pawnee Prairie Park features walking, biking, horseback riding, and picnic areas. Most of the trails follow the river with lots of wildflowers on either side. The park has restrooms right at the beginning, along with a map.
