About	'Tavern on the Green' was originally built as a sheepfold that housed a flock of 300 Southdown sheep that grazed the Sheep Meadow lawns of Central Park, New York City. The building was designed by Calvert Vaux in the Victorian Gothic Revival style. In the 1930's it was converted into the first restaurant of Central Park, and so began the making of an iconic dining institution. Tavern on the Green went through many renovations and, by the late '90s, had almost obscured its original footprint with the addition of other dining spaces, most notably, the famed Crystal Room. New owners Jim Caiola and David Salama, artists turned entrepreneurs, took over the shuddered space in 2014 and re-established the landmark building's original glory with the help of the City of New York. Today the restaurant has returned to its premier dining stature offering a delicious a-la-carte Classic American Menu as well as a celebratory space that hosts many of New York's weddings & more.
