About	The York Castle Museum is the ideal destination for discovering and learning how individuals lived in the past 400 years. The York Castle Museum was established by Dr John Kirk, a doctor from Pickering, North Yorkshire. The museum holds in a former debtors' prison and an adjoining former women's prison which is Grade I listed. It houses his remarkable collection of social history representing the county's daily life. The museum features children under five years of age a variety of programs and events to help them participate in collections and exhibits. The York Castle Museum also provides stimulating, engaging, and hands-on learning experiences that directly support the National Curriculum. It offers free entry for York residents children.
