AboutOld Trent Bridge is the main river crossing for the entrance of the city. It is made up of iron and stone constructed across river Trent. Several times the bridge was destroyed by flooding, and the northern half was swept away in 1683. The restored bridge was a fifteen arches over the river and flood areas, creating openings of 347 feet over a total length of 538 feet. The new Trent Bridge was part of many projects to strengthen flood defences by stepping stone dams along the river banks. Organizations are maintaining the old Trent Bridge.
