About | Norwich Guildhall was the heart of the city council from the early 15th century until its replacement by city building in 1938. The outside is an outstanding example of the stonework for which the city is famous. Guildhall is crafted from alternate squares of faced flint and ashlar stone. It was reconstructed in the 16th century; the east end of the building is built of alternate squares of facing flint and ashlar stone, giving the building its checked influence. It was designed to impress a sixteen-bay roof with tie-beams, Renaissance decorative woodwork and stunning stained glass. |
