About	Thurnham Castle has an area that seems to have been used as a watchtower for fortification purposes since Roman times. The site has been acquired by Kent County Council. One side of the bailey wall enclosed an area of about a quarter of an acre, and it stands 10 feet high. The fortress was part of the de Say family and then the de Thurnhams in the 12th century. This castle is a great site to visit with the family, a beautiful tour with absolutely stunning views of the Kent countryside. It affords free entry to its visitors.
