About | St Chad's Cathedral is the first Catholic cathedral established in Great Britain in the year 1841, following the Reformation of the 16th Century. The church building is known worldwide for its exquisite architecture, which holds a remarkable history and a rich heritage. St Chad's Cathedral was designed by Augustus Welby Pugin as a church in a Gothic Revival style, which was raised to cathedral status in 1852. The cathedral has three manual organs that were installed in 1993. It is still used as a teaching instrument for the students and serves in regular worship and choir music. Their architectural and artistic gems possess a large collection of medieval furnishings and carvings collected by Pugin. St Chad's Cathedral also has stained glass windows that offer picturesque views inside the cathedral building. |
