About | Japanese Cemetery Park is a sprawling park that is the largest Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia. It is a very respectful commemoration to the Japanese community members throughout history in Singapore. It covers about 29,359 square metres, consisting of 910 tombstones that contain the remains of members of the Japanese community in Singapore, including young Japanese civilians, soldiers and convicted war criminals executed in Changi Prison. In 1987 Singapore government gazetted it as a memorial park. The brothel owner Tagajiro Fukaki donated the land for young Japanese women who died in destitution. Civilians and soldiers who lost their lives on the battlefield are buried in the cemetery. |
