About	French colonists built the botanical garden on 22 acres with themed plots, an aquarium and train rides. It becomes the hub of horticultural development in Pondicherry. In 1831 the spot was transformed into a botanical garden. The garden features toy train fountains, with two shows in the evening. The garden also has a Japanese rock structure and an aquarium. More than 1,500 plant species with placards indicating the species, the common name, and interesting details such as tree use are housed in the sprawling 22 acres of garden.
