| About | Ellora Caves is a rock-cut monastery-temple cave built from six hundred to thousand CE. It has Hindu, Buddhist and Jain temples and consists of hundreds of caves in which only thirty-four is open to the public. The walls of the caves have inscriptions that tell sixth-century history. The famous Rashtrakuta Dantidurga on the mandapa of the cave has fifteen notes dated back 753 to 757 AD. Ellora Caves has the monument to Shiva, the enormous single monolithic rock excavated in the world. A confluence of ideas and shared creative intensities gave shape to one of ancient India's most sensational works of art. |
