About	Sabarmati Ashram is located in the Sabarmati suburb of Ahmedabad. Mahatma Gahnadi stayed in the Ashram when he returned from South Africa. In 1917, Ashram was moved to a piece of open land on the Sabarmati River banks. He had carried all the main activities of independence and enlightened society from this ashram. Later the Ashram was developed as a museum and popularly known as Sabarmati Ashram. The primary aim of the museum is to house Mahatma Gandhi's memorabilia. Sabarmati Ashram includes books, manuscripts and photocopies, photos of Gandhiji with his wife Kasturba and other ashram associates, life-size oil paintings and real relics, including his writing desk and spinning wheel. The Ashram is also a scenic beauty with lush green surroundings giving a natural feeling of India and its rich cultural values.
