AboutCape Spear Lighthouse National Historic Site is the landmark lighthouse & fortress site surrounded by trails & offering panoramic viewpoints. Cape Spear lighthouse is protected as National Historic Site for two reasons: the lighthouse's age and construction and its role as a gun battery during World War II. Cape Spear Lighthouse is the oldest surviving structure in Newfoundland and Labrador and Fort Cape Spear's Second World War site. It is also very well known as Canada's easternmost point; the site boasts excellent views of unusual seabirds, whales and icebergs.
