AboutPrince of Wales Tower National Historic Site is the oldest martello tower located at Point Pleasant Park in the greater Halifax, Nova Scotia. The building was built in 1796 by Captain James Straton and was used as a redoubt and a powder magazine. Five Martello Towers were built in Halifax, the Prince of Wales Tower being the last remaining Tower. It has a plaque on the outside of the building, explaining the significance and history of the structure and interpretative signage as you approach the building. It is the most exciting to sort of step back in history in such a magnificent old building. Prince of Wales Tower National Historic Site is ideal for exploring the city's story and culture.
