About | Cheltenham Badlands is a natural heritage landmark with unique landscape features located northwest of Toronto, Ontario, on the southeast side of Olde Base Line Road in Caledon, ON. The place is a significant educational site due to the readily visible geologic processes, and the unique topography of the exposed shale makes this badlands a popular tourist site in the city. The site is considered a Provincial Earth Sciences Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI) and is also one of the outstanding examples of badlands topography in Ontario. In the 1800s and early 1900s, this site was used for agricultural purposes, predominantly cattle grazing. Cheltenham badlands itself has a bruce trail and Niagara escarpment. |
