About | Sovereign Hill is an open-air museum that opened on 29 November 1970. It was developed to preserve historic buildings and to recreate the gold diggings that made the city. It is one of Victoria's most popular attractions and Ballarat's most famous. It brings the life of Australia’s 1850s goldfields, providing a full day’s entertainment with hands-on experiences for the whole family. Sovereign Hill has 60 historically recreated buildings with costumed staff and volunteers. It also has guided tours for two mines. The mine tram will take the visitors into the mine for a tour. Sovereign Hill offers free entry for children under 5 years at the outdoor museum. |
