About	St Mary of the Angels Basilica was founded on 27 November 1842. It is a Catholic place of worship with its vibrant community participating in regular Sunday and weekday Masses. The church is a Gothic revival bluestone building that was established to serve the local Catholic families. At first, the church was a small wooden chapel. But over the years, as the population started growing, a new church building was designed, and the construction was completed in 1937. St Mary of the Angels Basilica offers Sunday classes for government and private school children. The church has the fourth-tallest non-cathedral spire in Australia. The church faced many restorations and renovations to serve the community with faith in God and humanity over the years. St Mary of the Angels Basilica acknowledges the continued deep spiritual attachment and relationship Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to this country and commit themselves to the ongoing journey of reconciliation.
